Guide to Levels

  • Grades 1st-4th

    Level 1

Our Level One students take the stage with a 30-40 minute musical, but their journey is about so much more than just memorizing lines! Through rehearsal and performance, they gain essential theatre skills, including:

Stage Awareness – Managing small set changes and understanding stage movement.
Teamwork – Collaborating with castmates to bring the story to life.
Confidence & Projection – Speaking clearly and expressively in front of an audience.
Emotional Expression – Bringing characters to life with energy and authenticity.
Show Structure & Responsibility – Learning the order of scenes and the flow of a production.

This hands-on experience builds a strong foundation, instilling a love for theatre while teaching valuable life skills that extend far beyond the stage!

  • Grades 5th-6th

    Level 2

Building on the foundation of Level One, our Level Two students take their skills to the next level! In this stage of their theatre journey, they refine their acting techniques, embrace more complex performance elements, and step into greater responsibilities.

Bigger Productions – Rehearsing and performing a 60 to 70-minute musical with a more dynamic storyline.
Intricate Choreography – Mastering more advanced movement and stage blocking.
Character Depth – Exploring emotions, motivations, and character development.
Increased Responsibility – Managing set changes, costume transitions, and scene continuity with confidence.

This level challenges students to elevate their performance skills, preparing them for more demanding roles and fostering independence both on and off the stage!

  • Grades 7th-8th

    Level 3

At Level Three, our students step into a more advanced and dynamic theatrical experience, offering two distinct productions each semester: a straight play and a musical.

Diverse Performance Opportunities – Students explore both traditional plays and musicals, broadening their acting range.
Technical Theatre Experience – Opportunities to "tech" and assist with lower-level productions, gaining hands-on backstage skills.
Shakespeare & Classical Theatre – Introducing the beauty and challenge of Shakespearean works, where our students excel in language, movement, and storytelling.
Higher Expectations, Greater Growth – With more complex material, students refine their acting, singing, and dancing, taking a significant leap forward in their artistry.

At this level, our students truly begin to master their craft, embracing the depth and discipline of theatre while mentoring younger performers and shaping their own unique artistic voices.

  • Grades 9th-12th

    Level 4

Our Level Four students represent the highest level of training at Genesis Children’s Theatre. At this stage, they are performing at a pre-professional level, mastering the skills necessary for full-scale productions and challenging theatrical works.

    • Full-Length ProductionsBroadway-caliber musicals (2.5 hours), full-scale Shakespeare, and contemporary plays push students to their artistic limits.
    • Professional Training – Industry professionals direct, choreograph, and mentor, ensuring an authentic, high-level theatre experience.
    • Advanced Choreography & Acting Styles – Students explore diverse genres and acting techniques, preparing them for any stage.
    • Leadership & Mentorship – As the theatre’s leaders and mentors, Level Four students guide younger actors and are eligible to serve as officers in our Thespian Troupe.
    • Ambassadors of Excellence – Many at this level are Standing Ovation winners, triple threats, and role models, embodying the heart and values of Genesis both on and off the stage.

Coming to see a Level Four production rivals any touring show that comes to town. These students bring power, passion, and professionalism to every performance, making each show an unforgettable experience.
